The River Severn is the second-longest river in the British Isles at roughly 354 kilometres (220 mi), making it a popular choice for canoe hire. It gains an altitude of 610 metres (2,001 ft) within the Cambrian Mountains in Plynlimon, near Llanidloes in Powys. It then flows through a number of locations including Shrewsbury, Ironbridge, Bridgnorth, Worcester and Gloucester and has the largest water flow in England and Wales as well as some of the most picturesque landscapes you can find in the UK.
It’s the perfect place for families, groups and individuals to experience a 1-day Canadian canoe trip or even a 2-day canoe trip, 3-day canoe trip or 5-day canoe hire & camping adventure.

It’s not just a picture-perfect paddle in terms of the villages and towns you’ll paddle through, the River Severn has several nature reserves. These support a variety of different birdlife and even the endangered 5-spot ladybird. The banks of the Severn are home to many species of birds including kingfisher, ducks, swans, snipe and moorhen.

Canoe trip safety

Safety starts with an orientation and safety brief prior to setting off. Of course, you will have all the equipment you need to remain safe on the water including buoyancy aid, safety lines, flotation devices and dry bags to keep your personal belongings safe and dry.

No prior canoeing experience is required as the River Severn is relatively sedate. We will keep an eye on the flow rate and prevailing weather conditions in order to minimise any potential risk.

We can provide either guided or unguided canoe hire trips, but highly recommend one of the camping & canoeing adventures we deliver throughout the summer.

Canadian style canoe adventures

We offer a day trip from Bridgnorth to Arley, a day trip from Bridgnorth to Bewdley both with steam train return and a 2, 3 or 5 Day camping trip.

During the 5-day canoe expedition, you will cover 100 miles often wild camping as and when the group size and terrain permits.

Your basic camping equipment is included in the canoe hire along with river permits and bankside support.
